Butte College’s Speech and Debate students took home top awards competing against top colleges in the nation at a recent tournament, with over 40 colleges, spanning 14 different states.
“With four Butte College student competitors in the national speech and debate competition this year, our students shined, earning second place overall in the 2-year division along with winning seven individual awards,” said Shannan Troxel-Andreas, Butte College Speech and Debate Director.
Individual Student Awards:
Vanessa Flournoy: First Place: Persuasive Speaking, Third Place: Duo Interpretation
Carly Jarvis: Second and Third Place: Dramatic Interpretation
Emily Nelson: Third Place: Duo Interpretation, Fourth Place: Persuasive Speaking
Noah Brust: Third Place: Informative Speaking
The team plans to host their bi-annual Speech and Performance Showcase online in December.
