Promise Scholarship Needs Support To Help Rebuild Community

The Camp Fire directly affected over 1,474 Butte College students who resided within the burn areas. Of those, more than 871 students and 139 staff lost their homes. The focus is now turned toward recovery efforts and long-term funding is needed to help train our local workforce in rebuilding our communities.

Butte College Promise Scholarship Can Help Rebuild Our Communities

The Butte College Promise Scholarship Endowment needs your support to help first-time, full-time students - of any age - earn a certificate, degree, and/or transfer to a four-year university by offering scholarships for their tuition and fees for up to two semesters. The biggest need for Camp Fire survivors and local residents is workforce training. Currently, the Promise Scholarship is only partially funded through state funding, and a generous donation from the Grossman Family of $1 million—however, more funding is needed to sustain the program to ensure Camp Fire survivors and those displaced in our communities can be trained or re-trained to help in the rebuild effort.

The Butte College Foundation is seeking to raise $4 million to support the Promise Scholarship Endowment to make it sustainable for our students for years to come.  The Butte College Foundation has raised $1.6 million to date, and is seeking to raise $2.5 million.

New Rebuild Effort Certificate Programs Offered Fall 2019

Butte College is offering new certificate and degree programs to aid in the rebuild effort and train our local workforce. Your donation will directly support Camp Fire survivors who apply this fall to support the rebuild effort. Rebuilding our communities as quickly as possible is critical and a skilled workforce is desperately needed. Butte College is poised to serve as a workforce partner through the Promise Scholarship Program. With training and skills, students can enter the workforce quickly and find employment in the rebuild areas in construction and manufacturing, to name a few.

Your donation to the Promise Scholarship Program Endowment provides training opportunities for survivors of the Camp Fire and our local residents to enroll in new certificate and degree programs that will aid in the rebuild efforts beginning this Fall 2019 such as: Applied Construction, Construction Management, Commercial and Residential Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Advanced Manufacturing, Diesel Technology, Automotive Technology, Manufacturing Operations, and Production Management. We hope you’ll consider a partnership to help rebuild our communities, train a new workforce, and keep residents working locally.
